We are completely thrilled to announce that the event raised $20,000.00 to be divided equally between our 2012 Benefactors:

Dr. Pandey’s Lab at the University of Windsor & Windsor & Essex County Cancer Foundation’s: Seeds 4 Hope.

We are thankful to the teachers and emcees and honoured guests that made up our awesome program line-up, our exhibitors, sponsors and of course, yogi-attendees!

A special thanks to the Yoga Studios & Teachers and Community who stepped it up with their supporting events!!!

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the day!  We are thankful to the tried and true team as well as new ones.  if you wish to volunteer for us, please check out our Volunteers page.

Hopefully the upcoming clinical trial with 30 local cancer patients will shed new light on how we may better manage cancers with alternative therapies such as the use of Dandelion Root Extract as a tea in cancer therapy/management.

If we can manage it, maybe one day we can cure it too.

United We Cure.

With thanks,

Namaste.

Pink Padma Close up of lotus

In Buddhism

  • Among all the lotus colors, the pink lotus is reserved for the highest of deities and is the earthly symbol of the Buddha. In Buddhism, the lotus’s life is a symbolic representation of the evolution of the soul; the lotus springs from the muddy depths to rise through murky water and into the sunlight to become a beautiful flower. It represents the soul’s journey from materialism through experience and into enlightenment.

In Hinduism

  • The pink lotus in India is knows as the sacred lotus, and is depicted as the seat of the goddess of wealth and good fortune. The goddess Lakshmi sits upon this pink flower and is said to have been born of it. Similar to the Buddhist belief, the lotus in Hinduism represents non-attachment. Because the flower rises above the waters and is untouched by them, it is sacred. In Hinduism, this is how a person should live, above the waters of attachment and free of material ties.

    As Food

    • The many varieties of lotus have been cultivated for culinary and medicinal uses throughout Asia, India and Egypt. Lotuses are used in cooking as they are a member of the pea family. The entire flower is edible, but the most common part of the plant used is the rhizomes, or roots, of the flower, which are sold and used as a vegetable. The seeds of the lotus plant are also used in medicine and food. They can be roasted and made into a paste for use in baking. It is said that the lotus roots, seeds and flowers are good for the heart, kidney and spleen.

The Mulah Mala Mania

Mulah Mala 36 inches long with 108 Azurite Stones and weighs 2 pounds.

What is a Mulah Mala?

‘Mulah’ in the urban dictionary means ‘money’ or a slang term commonly used for ‘money’.

‘Mala’ is a set of Buddhist Prayer Beads or a rosary that Buddhists use to keep track of their mantras without being distracted to count.  Read more here from Wiki

The Mulah Mala is a fun and honourary way to acknowledge the generosity of our Local Yoga studios.

This Mala was handmade by Sherry Falsetta of Sherry’s Bracelets who has been an amazing supporter of Yoga 4 Hope/Pajama Angels.

Read more about Sherry’s Bracelet’s here if you don’t already know about this generous, supportive soul.

The Top LOCAL  fundraising studio  will proudly house and display the Mulah Mala until the following Yoga 4 Hope where it will adorn Buddha during the event and then later on it will be passed on to the next qualifying studio in a sacred Mulah Mala Ceremony.

The details of this Mulah Mala Ceremony are so sacred and so secret, unfortunately, we cannot share it here.

About the Mala

The mala is made of 54 Azurite beads & 54 Lava stones, 108 total as in a traditional Tibetan Mala.  It weighs in at just 1/2 ounce under 2 pounds and is 36 inches long from top to end of the 5 tassels.

Azurite is called the “stone of heaven.”

It aids in developing;

  • psychic awareness,
  • psychic skills and abilities,
  • enhances intuition,
  • and is said to guide you to be accurate in depicting psychic experiences.
  • It is also an excellent stone for meditation, allowing you to enter a meditative state easily.
  •  It can enhance prophesy and divination.

Azurite is said to help control energy flow and bring just the right amount of energy to any situation.

Physically, azurite is professed by folklore to be helpful for:

  • healing in general,
  • cancer prevention,
  •  liver issues
  •  arthritis,
  •  joint problems,
  • depression,
  •  sinuses, and
  • skin problems.

Azurite is most closely related to the third eye chakra, and can balance, stimulate, and empower it. It will also work to align all of the chakras.

Lava - born of fire, lava burns away sickness and negativity.

Adding to the Mala

Every year symbolic additions or charms will be added to represent each subsequent year & the winning studio will also have something to represent them and the year that they succeeded as top fundraiser.

‘Refresh’ 3-Day Raw Food Challenge

Original source: http://the-cleanse.com/clean_living/refresh-raw-food-challenge-yoga-4-hope/

Welcome to Refresh 2012! This is a 3 day raw food cleansing diet leading into the Yoga 4 Hope event on

August 25th in LaSalle, Ontario.

Dr. Natasha Zajmalowski, ND – http://proactive-healthcare.com/

Dr. Jesse Chappus, chiropractor – http://drjessechappus.com/blog

The Raw Food Diet

The raw food diet includes fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds that are prepared without heating 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

Raw food promotes health because the food’s enzymes remain active while the water content and oxygen in foods is preserved.  A raw food diet also helps to increase the body’s alkalinity and can encourage weight loss, if needed. All raw food is healthy so the more you eat, the less room you have to eat junk.

Yoga is a connection of mind, body and spirit.  A raw food diet helps to provide maximal nutrients and minimal energy needed for digestion which ultimately helps to lead to a clearer mind.

Healthy Habits for the 3 Day Cleanse

There are many gourmet/complex raw food recipes but for this event we are going to focus on keeping things simple and easy.

During this 3 day cleanse you are going to want to omit meat, dairy, gluten and caffeine from your diet. Drinking green tea throughout the 3 days is recommended.

Getting enough sleep is critical for great health. Make sure you are getting at least 8 hours of solid sleep each night during these 3 days so you wake up refreshed and rested. Sleep is a time for your body to repair.

A great way to start off each day of this cleanse is by drinking a large glass of filtered water with fresh squeezed lemon in it. You want to do this right after you get out of bed before you eat anything. It is important to hydrate after sleeping for 8 hours – you lose moisture through breathing and sweating throughout the night. Drinking filtered water is very important. Tap water contains fluoride, chlorine and prescription drug residues. Reverse osmosis is best. It is also important to used filtered water in recipes and for making tea.

Recipe Guidelines

For this 3 day cleanse we have put together a list of easy to make recipes below. You can also find additional recipes at the websites included at the end of this document or by searching “raw food recipes” online.

There are thousands or raw recipe options but many require a great deal of preparation, cleaning, specific appliances and special ingredients you need to order online. It is recommended you stick to a simple menu over this 3 day period.

A day’s diet during this event could include a smoothie for breakfast, some fruit and guacamole for lunch, followed by a large salad for dinner. Smoothies and fruit make for great snacks in between meals.

This cleanse is set up for simplicity. After you finish the Refresh you can broaden your menu by dehydrating, sprouting, and juicing.

Dehydrating – A food dehydrator is a great tool for making raw crackers, fruit rolls, kale chips etc. The best brand to buy is the Excalibur.

Sprouting – Sprouting seeds can be purchased at most health food stores or you can buy the already sprouted seeds. They are simple to grow using a jar with a fine mesh on top or using a nut milk bag. Specific sprouting directions can be searched out online. Sprouts are packed with nutrition and make a great addition to any salad.

Juicing – If you have a juicer, making some fruit and/or vegetable juice during this event is an excellent option. Juicing supplements the diet with a great deal of vitamins and minerals. It is also very hydrating.
